About
A pharmacy built around one pharmacist's stubbornness.
Dr. Sandra How is a problem-solver — the type of person who figures out how to get the square peg into the round hole. When the square peg is your blood-pressure medicine and the round hole is your mouth, you begin to appreciate her.
Dr. Sandra How has created a genuinely unusual pharmacy experience by providing her customers highly personalized care. She is often seen walking the aisles with them — offering consultation on prescription medication, discussing possible tests or remedies for low energy, depression or anxiety, suggesting pharmaceutical-grade supplements, and answering questions about veterinary medication for beloved family pets.
“At Triumph Pharmacy we practice our art on the same side of the counter as the customer. Nowhere else have I seen the pharmacists cross over to the other side.”
The compounding side
The other thing that makes this pharmacy unusual is its compounding practice. Before the mass production of medication became normal, compounding was a routine activity among pharmacists. Community pharmacists like Dr. How, who have real experience with compounding technique, are now far less common. She creates preparations that are not available commercially to fit specialized needs — from bio-identical hormones to sterile IV products.
Her philosophy is that no matter the problem, there is a solution that will get the patient the medication they need. “I have a client who has hepatitis, so her liver can't metabolize medications well and her medications have become toxic to her. So we formulate her medication into a cream, and it bypasses the liver.”
Her patients are widely varied — from children who haven't yet learned to swallow pills, to Alzheimer's patients who have forgotten how. Triumph compounds bio-identical hormones, pain creams for cancer patients, orthopedic preparations, sterile IVs and injections, specialized medication for patients with autism, numbing and bleaching creams, and a great deal of work for dentists, veterinarians, dermatologists, podiatrists and fertility specialists.
Dr. How is a native Houstonian and has been in The Woodlands area for many years. If you find yourself with a difficult pharmacological problem, the person with the best solution — not to mention the experience and the team behind her — is right around the corner.
Old-fashioned care, modern expertise
At Triumph Pharmacy, patients get the warm feeling of old-fashioned customer care with the assurance of modern medical expertise. That is the whole idea, and it is why we are still independent and locally owned.
How compounding works
An essential triad: patient, physician, pharmacist.
The physician prescribes. The pharmacist takes the necessary ingredients, compounds them, and dispenses the medicine after a thorough personal consultation. That structure is what makes genuinely personalized care possible.
Your physician prescribes
Including the strength, the form and any ingredient that has to be left out.
We formulate it
Using FDA-approved chemicals and state-of-the-art equipment, to the prescriber's exact specification.
We talk it through
Nobody leaves with a compounded preparation without understanding how to use and store it.
